The Hornpipe

The hornpipe is very popular for Irish dancing but is not as popular with the musicians.

The hornpipe has four beats in the bar. The first and third beat in each bar is heavy (emphasised). The hornpipe has a 'hoppy' rhythm whereas the reel has a straighter rhythm.

Maeve Donnelly plays The Few Bob (Maeve Donnelly)

James Keane plays Murphy's and An tSeanbhean Bhocht (Green Linnet)

Maeve Donnelly plays the Virtuoso Hornpipe (Maeve Donnelly)

Joe Derrane plays 3 hornpipes from the album Give Us Another (Green Linnet)
