Researchers

When you turn on a light switch, or plug in a stereo, it will only work if supplied with electricity. Also, when you put batteries into a walkman or torch the power comes from the battery. This is another type of electricity. But where does this electricity come from? How is it made or generated?

As a Researcher, you must find out about as many different ways of generating (making) electricity as you can. In putting together your report, include the following:

Heading - name each source (what is used to make the electricity).

Describe how the electricity is made using this source.

Include a graphic (picture) of this method of making electricity. You may use a picture you have downloaded from one of the websites you have visited, or you may create your own picture.

When you have found as many sources of electricity as you can, report (write about):

Which do you think is the most common source of electricity in the world today?

Which sources do you think are not used very much?

Are some sources better to use than others?
      Are they cheaper?
      Are they safer?
      Are they more environmentally friendly?

If you were in charge would you stop the production of electricity from certain sources? Why?

Would you promote (encourage) the use of particular sources? Why?

Consult the checklist to make sure you have everything you need for your report

The following websites are grouped to help you see the many ways in which electricity is generated - one for each source.
