Description

Overview

This project provides a structured and logical approach to learning modules in Leaving Certificate Physics using the sound section as an example. The emphasis is on using the internet as a support mechanism to traditional pedagogical approaches. One of the newest innovations in the Leaving certificate syllabus is the integration of examples of science, technology and society with the theory taught in the classroom. To this end, the website contains a large section on STS which is supported by links to relevant supporting websites. The links are excellent in enabling students with animations to visualise applications, which are sometimes not possible to demonstrate in the laboratory. It provides a fresh alternative to chalk and talk. The site is appropriate to both higher and ordinary level. The unit should take about 1 hour.

What You Need

Higher or Ordinary Level Leaving Cert students. The site will take about 1 hour to browse- however it is envisaged that the methodology learned would then be applied as a framework for further learning. It is recommended, where possible, that a teacher would use an overhead projector connected to a computer to introduce the site and emphasise the important points.

Curriculum Addressed
