Riann agus amhrain, is a website which contains songs and rhymes as Gaeilge. The songs and rhymes are categorised into the various topic areas as outlined by the new curriculum, Mé Féin Siopadóireacht, Sa Bhaile, Caitheamh Aimsire, Ar Scoil, Éadaí, Bia, An Aimsir, An Teilifís agus Ócáidí Speisialta. Along with the songs and rhymes are some colouring pages and worksheets to download as a teaching resource. Also included are some PowerPoint presentations on some of the songs and rhymes and also some GWB files for use on the whiteboards. Some of the songs and rhymes have intercultural links i.e. the rhyme will be linked to the same rhyme in other languages.
Gaeilge – This site aims to develop the strands of éisteacht, labhairt, léitheoireacht and scríbhneoireacht (listening, speaking, reading and writing), as outlined by Curaclam na Gaeilge. The brightly presented songs and rhymes will also support the strand units of Curaclam na Gaeilge in fostering interest (Ag cothú spéise) in the Irish language,, understanding the language (Ag tuiscint teanga) and using the language (Ag úsáid teanga). The site also aims to promote language awareness and cultural awareness by linking Irish songs and rhymes to songs and rhymes in other languages.
What You Need
Access to a computer, the internet & a printer. Access to a data projector would be beneficial so as to use the site as a whole class resource.
