Garden Gang |
||
The site we took on was at the back of our school. There is a steep slope because we are on a hill. We had to clear away dead grass and rubbish. The ground had to be prepared for plants. This meant digging over the soil and clearing large stones. We had most of this work done when vandals came in and broke lots of bottles and left these in the prepared soil. Our caretaker and teachers had to clear this because it was too dangerous for us. We decided to use hardy shrubs. We went to the garden centre to choose some. The ones with thorns and sharp leaves were what we picked, so that they might survive. These were expensive and we could only buy ten. To learn more about plants and gardening we are given the use of some tunnel and raised bed space at Mounthamilton, a health board facility. |
