Junior Cycle CSPE Curriculum Resources

Challenging Images

Author:  Sean Doran Friday, 5th May 2006
Overview

The project explores the mediums of photography and art as mediums of expression for young people in general with a special emphasis on those physically challenged. It explores issues such as our role in Europe, ethnicity, tolerance, cultural and social diversity, and the area of physical and learning disabilities. It is activity rich for CSPE, transition year, SPHE and LCAP.

Students can create a photographic and written project based around the idea of giving fellow students here and on mainland Europe a glimpse into their lives and interests. Where they live and what they like to do. Similarly, they have the opportunity to learn about the culture of students in another EU state. The work can be presented by PowerPoint presentation.

Suitable For

This project is suitable for students from 6th class primary and upwards to 18. Skill level basic-point a camera and shoot.

Imagination, enthusiasm, initiative and interest are the major prerequisites.

Curriculum Addressed

This allows the student to positively engage in his/her holistic development, creatively expressing himself or herself. Thus the areas covered are socio-cultural and designed to positively engage the student in the learning process.

Objectives

Allow the student flexibility to present his project in a creative way. Highlight resources available such as Internet, library and local organisations.
