Senior Cycle Transition Year Curriculum Resources

Auroral Displays & Magnetic Effects

Author:  Patrick Connolly Thursday, 25th May 2006
Overview

This project was designed primarily as a module for Transition Year with a view to fostering an interest in Astronomy and Physics. To this end images of Aurora taken from the web have been used. The site can also be used as a teaching aid for the Leaving Certificate Physics course as it contains strong elements of the Magnetism and Applied Electricity sections and for the Junior Certificate Physics course, in particular the Energy Conversions option. ICT allows the student to interact with the experiments as many applets have been used. By being able to change variables at will and to see instant results the student should develop a keener interest and gain a fuller understanding which are not often possible from a textbook. The student can choose a module from suggested projects on the projects page.
