Rationale:

We chose to deal with the topic of Ancient Greece as we felt it would be of interest to children of this age, while at the same time being an accessible subject. We decided to explore the methodology of jigsaw grouping, with a desire to achieve a cooperative groupwork outcome. The idea of using documentary as the communication forum in our webquest came from an understanding of contemporary children's interest in media forms. The inclusion of linked worksheets is used to provide a foundation for the children's research work and we felt this would lead to more detailed research, ergo, fulfilling the criteria for successful jigsaw grouping i.e. the child as an expert. When setting out evaluation criteria for the webquest we wanted to provide opportunities for the children to demonstrate both their cognitive and social abilities and we feel the reflective evaluation rubric set out does this successfully.
