The pH Scale is a measures how acidic or basic a substance is
   
 

The pH Scale goes from 0 - 14.

 

 

pH of 7 is neutral (Neither Acidic or Basic)

 

 

pH 0 - 7 is Acidic

 

  pH 7 - 14 is Basic

To determine the pH of a solution we can use Universal Indicator


bullet Place the solution to be tested in a beaker.
bullet Place some Universal Indicator paper in the beaker
bullet The colour of the paper will change.
bullet Compare the colour of the indicator paper with the scale above. This will tell you the pH of the solution
bullet You can also use a device called a pH meter to find the pH of a solution
